I've had some wonderful performance experiences recently. On January 19, I was one of the actors in a fun evening of old radio plays (episodes of "Archie Andrews", "Escape" and "Our Miss Brooks") presented at Christ Church (an Anglican church in Saskatoon) as if they were being broadcast live from a studio. More than 70 people attended the show.
On January 28, five members of the Saskatoon Writers Coop read from their work at Mystic Java on 8th St. E. in Saskatoon. My contribution, which was very well received (even the people at the far end of the restaurant who weren't there for the reading stopped talking to listen to me), was a short story titled "THINK-ING-THINK-ING-THINK-ING".
On January 29, I was in charge of entertainment at a staff party for the Saskatoon Open Door Society (where I teach English as a Second Language), which included some improv with Lauren Ansaldo (a coworker who was in the SNIT Patrol, an improv group that I directed many years ago). I also performed two monologues: Peter Cook's "Down the Mine" (which I've done at various events) and the city council monologue that I wrote last fall and have revised and performed a couple of times previously. All of the entertainment went very well, including getting lines of dialogue and other suggestions from the audience.
My next big event will be "Rehearsal for Murder", an excellent murder mystery and comedy that will run for three nights in May (11th to 13th) at Christ Church. I'll be playing the lead role, and David Creelman will be the director. I'll post more details about it as the time approaches.
