HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!

Speaking of love, on Thursday I was able to combine two of the activities that I love: drama and teaching ESL (English as a Second Language). I was invited--and paid--to lead a hands-on session about drama and improv at the University of Saskatchewan's Centre for Second Language Instruction. It was great fun! The ESL students really got into it. Of course, as a teacher, I planned the activities to gradually reduce their inhibitions and increase their trust in each other. Thanks to Gloria Forbes for inviting me, and to her and Shirley Fredeen (another ESL teacher at the CSLI) for participating in the session!

According to CBC Radio, the average person spends 336 hours of his/her life kissing.

"The writer trusts nothing he writes--it should be too reckless and alive for that, it should be beautiful and menacing and slightly out of control...Good writing...explodes in the reader's face. Whenever the writer writes, it's always three or four or five o'clock in the morning in his head." - Joy Williams

Thanks, Saskatoon City Council, for voting unanimously to pass a very progressive smoking ban!

"I don't like people who have never fallen or stumbled. Their virtue is lifeless and it isn't of much value. Life hasn't revealed its beauty to them."
- Boris Pasternak (author of "Doctor Zhivago")
